Illusion of Democracy. Free Music.
Hey Everyone,
I wrote a song for a contest. It’s called Old Dan Next Door. It is going up against about 40 other songs in round one of spintunes #4. It’s going to be judged… harshly… to see who goes on to the next round. Votes may, or may not, inform judge’s judging, and will be used to break a tie.
So go download a ton of free music, and vote for my song, but only if you like it the best.
-Jim
Did you guys know that my best bud Jim is on tumblr? He makes music with his band, The Long Holidays, and he’s in the heat of a songwriting competition, so give it a listen and send him some votes!

Rick Ross's Simple Lessons for Bosses, Dons, and Bitches
I have no idea where the bricks of money come from, but every so often another appears, and Ross throws hundreds and hundreds of never-before-touched $1 bills on the floor. Not with any kind of flourish or fetishistic savor or anything, but like a man feeding pigeons. A man who doesn’t even really like pigeons. Eventually, with considerably less enthusiasm than pigeons being fed, some of the strippers migrate over to the Maybach Music area.

“Do You Love Me?”
by The Contours
It’s easy to love this song because it’s light and fun and most every one of your cheesy dance moves can go along with it. And, yes, I love it for all of those reasons, but my love for this song consists of another dimension: the bittersweet taste of revenge and desperate spite.
You don’t need to go further than the first few lines to understand what this song is about:
You broke my heart
‘Cause I couldn’t dance
You didn’t even want me around
And now I’m back, to let you knowI can really shake ‘em down
The protagonist of this song was unceremoniously dumped because of his lack of dance moves. In an act of unadulterated “this oughtta show ‘em” spite, the protagonist goes on a mission to be a great dancer. Maybe not the greatest dancer, but surely just enough for him to be the best dancer at the next big dance.
There were probably some hurdles encountered in this quest to learn to dance. I’d wager some instructors were hesitant to teach their prospective pupil with the knowledge that he was showing interest in the art of dance not out of a pure love for the dance, but out of the fury in his heart. The tango ees about Passion, mijo, ees never about Vengeance. But every dance instructor has his price — and spite is a powerful motivator.
With that introduction in mind, it’s easy to imagine the rest of the song performed through desperate tears. A hush falls over the high school gym as that kid who was so publicly dumped by that girl who was kind of out of his league anyway walks to the center. Damn, he really can move. She must have dumped him because of something else, right? Because this guy can move! He dances faster and harder. He mash-potatoes. He does the twist. All the while glancing at her, daring her to keep up. And that’s when the tears start. This is the moment he worked so hard for. This is the moment he fantasized about. But revenge can never fill the hole left behind by heartbreak, and tears only make you look even more pathetic to someone cold enough to end a relationship over dance moves.
